The Detroit DD13 engine’s smart design makes the most of every gallon by integrating groundbreaking, fuel-efficient technologies:
- The 2nd Generation Amplified Common Rail System (ACRS™) optimizes each injection event
- Advanced time-based cooling system decreases fan usage
- Pull strong down to 1000 RPM offering a fuel economy “sweet spot”
With the longest service intervals in its class and an easily serviceable design, the Detroit DD13 lowers your cost of ownership by decreasing your time in the shop. With oil and fuel filters positioned above the frame rails, you’ll be back in the driver’s seat fast. If maintenance issues come up on the road, you can count on Detroit Virtual Technician remote™ on board diagnostics system to let you know how serious the fault code is, where the nearest part you need is located, and when you can get into the next available service bay, and then it can even schedule your repair appointment for you.
Extensive Parts Availability
Sharing common service operations and parts with the DD15® and DD16® ensures that trained technicians are ready to serve you and your DD13 at any of our 800+ authorized Detroit locations across the highways and back roads of North America.
Perform When It Counts
Driving the DD13 diesel engine means having power and torque when you need it. With a peak torque range of up to 500 RPM—from 1,000 to 1,500 RPM—your “sweet spot” becomes a “sweet stretch.” The robust DD13 extends our track record of durable engines with a B50 life of 1 million miles. Its asymmetrical turbocharger - now built in Detroit - has fewer moving parts than the competitor’s VGT or waste-gated turbocharger.
Other key performance features include:
- Integrated Jacobs® Engine Brake
- Ribbed cast iron block that lowers Noise Vibration Harshness (NVH)
- Robust rear gear train
Boost Fuel Economy with Proven SCR Emissions Technology
Like all current Detroit engines, the DD13 comes with SCR emissions technology and our innovative 1-Box Configuration.
The DD13 meets 2016 OBD (OBD16) and 2017 Greenhouse Gas (GHG17) regulations.
